The Crown

Bedrooms are homely and personal. Residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture, bedding, photographs, artwork and belongings, and where appropriate they can choose how their room is decorated. Rooms have en-suite facilities, and some accommodation has been specifically designed around wheelchair accessibility.

Support is agreed for each person based on their assessed needs and the agreed placement, so not everyone receives the same staffing. Depending on assessment, The Crown can provide 1:1 support, 2:1 where assessed as required, and waking-night support where required.

Day-to-day this can include personal care, medication, daily routines and household tasks, and support for people with learning disabilities, autism, and behaviours that may present challenges — using Positive Behaviour Support and help with emotional regulation and anxiety.

The team also supports people with physical and sensory disabilities, including mobility assistance, and has experience of complex care such as PEG feeding and stoma care. Staff work in partnership with families, social workers and relevant health and specialist professionals.

The home is fully wheelchair accessible, with a spacious lift serving all floors and wheelchair and hoist accessibility throughout. Three bedrooms are specifically designed for wheelchair users with large wet rooms, and there are accessible facilities and accessible garden and outdoor space.

Ordinary daily experiences matter as much as organised activities. Residents can be supported with cooking, laundry, making their bed, shopping, community access and other everyday skills, according to their own abilities and goals.

Each person has a personalised care plan that is reviewed regularly, and residents are involved in those reviews and in decisions about their own support. Feedback from residents is welcomed and acted on, and people are involved in menu planning and everyday choices about how they live at home.

The Crown is a small, homely service, which means staff can properly get to know each person's communication style, interests, routines, triggers, preferences and what makes them feel safe and comfortable.

Support is individualised rather than one-size-fits-all, and the team keeps good, open communication with families and professionals.
